A LaPorte County man was arrested Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, for allegedly running a dogfighting operation, and he and a woman were charged with possessing a large quantity of marijuana.

George Wedow and Lisa Daube were arrested at their residence, 5589 N. CR 600 W, at about 3:30 p.m. by the LaPorte County Metro Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Michigan City Street Crimes Unit.

“The investigation revealed a large dogfighting operation involving approximately 12 dogs, associated dogfighting equipment and approximately 70 pounds of processed marijuana at the CR 600 W address, and an additional location searched in Grovertown, IN, revealed another 19 dogs at that location,” according to a Metro press release. “The LaPorte County Animal Control and Starke County Animal Control agencies assisted, in addition to the Indiana State Police Air Wing.”

Wedow, 32, was charged in a federal indictment and is scheduled to appear in federal court in South Bend, IN. He is charged with manufacturing marijuana; buying, selling, delivering or transporting animals for participation in an animal fighting venue; and felon in possession of a firearm.

Daube, 29, faces LaPorte County charges of possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and maintaining a common nuisance.
