June BoeremaJune Ethel Boerema, 91, of LaPorte, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at LaPorte Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1920, in LaPorte to Clarence B. and Ladye A. (McFeely) Ahlgrim.

Mrs. Boerema was a 1938 graduate of LaPorte High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Grace College and a master’s degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne, IN. She worked as a teacher at Boston Middle School and Stillwell Schools. She retired as a caseworker for the Medicaid department of family and children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsbury, LaPorte Amateur Music Club, National Society of Music, LaPorte Symphony where she played violin, LaPorte Community Concert Board of Directors, and Neighborhood Watch. She had a Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do. She was a member of the LaPorte High School Orchestra in 1937 and received national honors in 1st Division for the school.

Surviving are daughter Pamela Price of LaPorte and stepson Dale (Betty) Boerema of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert M. Boerema, her parents, stepson John Boerema and a step-granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, LaPorte, with Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Friday from noon until the service.
