While it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been on a Jan. 28 in LaPorte, it still took some courage for golfers to show up at Beechwood to try their luck in the Winterfest closest-to-pin contest. Here are some scenes from the sunny event, and a schedule of upcoming Winterfest events:

Saturday, Feb. 4

– A Family Ceramics event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the LaPorte Civic Auditorium Ceramics Shop. The cost is $5 per person, plus cost of project.

– Draft horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered free from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Soldiers Memorial Park. Enjoy the beautiful park while being driven by draft horse owners Rick and Laura Bladecki. Rides originate from Cummings Lodge. Free hot chocolate will be available!

– The adult coed snowball softball tournament will be held at Lions Field. The double-elimination format is limited to the first eight teams. The cost to enter is $165 per team and all rosters and entry fees must be received by Jan. 27 at the city parks office. First- and second-place trophies will be awarded.

Sunday, Feb. 5

– A pancake breakfast sponsored by the LaPorte Kiwanis Club will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the LaPorte Armory on Ind. 2 West. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. Tickets are available through Kiwanis members and at the parks office.
