Mr. George P. Arndt Jr., 82, of LaPorte, died Feb. 4, 2012, at 1:45 p.m. at his home.
He was born in LaPorte on Jan. 30, 1930, to George Sr. and Bernice (Harness) Arndt. He had lived in LaPorte his entire life.
Mr. Arndt was retired from Sullair as the tool crib and warehouse supervisor. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and past member of Pine Lake Grange. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict in field artillery. Mr. Arndt was an avid hunter and fisherman and bowled in several area bowling leagues.
On Sept. 1, 1951, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, he married Carol Garrison, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lorna Sloane of LaPorte, and one son, Kirt Allen Arndt of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald Arndt and sister Shirley Zirzow.
Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Wednesday following the service.

George was a very good friend to my dad, Frank Stella, he will be greatly missed. Keeping the family close in thoughts and prayers.
