With a crystal blue sky giving way to a bright August moon, the setting was perfect for a brisk evening of fun music Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, as Dr. Groovy and the Soul Surgeons delivered a little medicine for the psyche.

Cool? Nah. That just meant it was time to get up and dance to the tunes of the versatile local group led by Dr. Charlie Groves, which offered up its repertoire of rock, pop, Motown and more at Fox Park’s outdoor venue, the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater, in the Arts in the Park series.

The free concerts in the park are not over; yet this week is the Windiana Band on Thursday, Aug. 15, starting at 7 p.m. Windiana, a professional-level concert band based in Valparaiso, performs concert band literature at a high level. Its members have studied with some of the most notable musicians in America, and are recognized for their performing and teaching.

Keyboardist Patrick Watterson and poetry by Dr. Scott Simerlein will also be featured Thursday starting at 6:30. Dee DeVincent’s watercolors will be on display both nights and refreshments will be available.

For more information about Arts in the Park or to sponsor or donate, visit www.artsintheparklaporte.com or contact co-directors Kitty Wolf or Lisa Smithson at 362-2558 or 363-9317.
